Well for the hair, I recommend starting out with the darkest shade of hair you plan to use and fill in in. Then, with a somewhat large brush, make strokes of a lighter shade and create the 'clumps' of hair (like the spikes, etc). Then on those 'clumps' you made around the hair, just keep going lighter with a smaller and smaller brush each time. Then once that's done, make an even lighter color/smaller brush size and just put it on parts of the hair that receive most light (like the top-ish part of the head)

I used to watch the english version when it was out on Fox5, Saturday mornings, but then they moved it over to Cartoonnetwork. ;A; Watched a couple of the episodes in Japanese later, but then I just read the manga.
